Tools
…that can make your life easier.
Improve your productivity by using SW tools
TMServe offers a collection of useful simple utilities aiming at assisting translation professionals with the maintenance of their language resources. Tools relating to SDL Trados 2007 products have been archived (please contact us for any requests). Products relating to SDL Trados Studio are presented below and in the SDL App Store, from where they can be downloaded. We will be happy to hear any suggestions for enhancements or feedback on the tools below that you might have.
If you have a specific need that is not covered by the tools below, please let us know and we will try to find the optimal existing solution for you or discuss the option to develop a custom SW application for you.
SDLTmFindVars
SDLTmFindVars is a utility that reads translation units from a given SDL Trados Studio translation memory (TM) file and by comparing the items found in the Source and Target segments identifies potential Variables. That is, it searches for non-translatable text. Variables are usually company names, product names, trademarks, tokens or any word or phrase that is left untranslated within each TM. The program writes the potential Variables in a TXT file for checking and further processing before the variables are added by the user in a Studio TM. It can also output the frequency of appearance in the output log and if needed, it can provide details for each Variable found in a CSV file. The user can also choose how the program performs the search and what is outputted through a number of options.
SDL Trados Studio considers Variables as replaceable parts of a text with no real language meaning (such as numbers or tags). Therefore it automatically enters them in the suggested target text allowing, for increase, matches provided by the TM and makes them accessible through the quick insert function to the users.
SDLTmFindVars works with SDL Trados Studio 2009, 2011 and 2014 TMs while it does not require a version of SDL Trados Studio to be installed on the PC to function. Free version supports TMs of up to 50,000 translation units and can be upgraded to a version supporting unlimited number of segments at a cost of 35 Euro.
SDLTmConvert
SDLTmConvert reads an SDL Trados Studio translation memory (*.sdltm) and converts it to: XLIFF for QA and editing in Studio or any other CAT tool, XML for using in spread sheets or databases, TMX for using with other tools and CSV or TXT for easy searches and use with text editors. The application allows for the splitting of the output into manageable size files, select specific translation units to be converted, set or hide users and other system info, clean up or generate additional translation units by manipulating tagged content. Remove tags in text form. Fast and easy to use without the need for SDL Trados Studio to be installed. Free version supports TMs of up to 50,000 translation units and can be upgraded to a version supporting unlimited number of segments at a cost of 35 Euro.

fdmSDLXliff2TMX
SDLXliff2Tmx reads a number of SDL Trados Studio Bilingual Files (*.sdlxliff) and creates a TMX Translation Memory (*.tmx) from the translated strings they contain. The user can select strings to be excluded, based on their status, being locked or having identical source and target segments and can optionally remove formatting information (tags). In addition the user can also save the exported strings in a tab delimited text file.
SDLTmReverseLangs
SDLTmReverseLangs creates a new TM from an existing with the original source – target language pair reversed and/or the sub-languages changed. For example given an English to Greek *.sdltm TM a new TM will be created with Greek as the source language and English as the Target.
SDLTmExport
SDLTmExport automates the generation of TMX files from existing SDLTMs so that they can be used to merge Studio TMs, to reverse the TM language pairs, to create TMs for Workbench or for other CAT tools, to extract terms etc.
Microsoft Greek Terminology Collection
A Multiterm term base containing the Microsoft English-Greek terminology available on the Microsoft Language Portal. This is a one-to-one term implementation with duplication of the term and description whenever needed so that each entry contains one English term, one description in English and one Greek term to assist translation activities.
